What we do

We are a group of 10-14 usually, who get every other Monday off to a good start with a lively discussion.

Reports

July 2017

The group continues to enjoy lively discussion on many and varied topics. Most recent of these have included: Cruising – heaven or hell? : Traditions and Customs: Restoration of the Lancaster to Kendal canal: Is it more charitable to spend your money or your time?

Attendance continues to be steady. Topics for future discussion are decided upon at the end of each meeting.

Sadly, another of our long-standing members died recently. Some of you will know Betty Oldroyd, a lively, interesting lady, with a very sharp mind at the age of 90 years. Betty will be much missed by the Group.

March 2017

Discussions continue to be lively, and topics very varied. Recently members have enjoyed topics as varied as ‘The New Year’s Honours List; The Trump Inauguration/Obama’s legacy; Provision of Social Care in the UK today and in the future.’

Attendance continues to be steady, with at least 15 attending recent meetings.Topics for future discussion are decided upon at the end of each meeting.

Sadly, two of our members have died in the last few months: Jean Ward, a founder member of South Lakes U3A, and Rhoda Bignell; both lovely, lively women who will be much missed by the Group

November 2016

Discussions continue to be lively, and topics very varied.

Members have enjoyed subjects as varied as Colours; Language, old and new; Halloweens past and present and ‘Should everyone wear a poppy?’.

Attendance continues to be steady, with new members joining since the September Open Morning. On average there will be at least 12 attending meetings. Topics for future discussion are decided upon at the end of each meeting.

August 2016

Discussions continue to be lively, and topics very varied. Members have enjoyed discussing ‘Shakespeare’s sonnets; the EU referendum; Do men gossip more than women?; Robotics and their development; American Independence Day and the current candidates for the presidency.’

Attendance continues to be steady, with an average of 12 attending recent meetings. Topics for future discussion are decided upon at the end of each meeting.
