I have, since founding this Group in 2011, run 70 Events. With a range of Special, out-of-the ordinary Activities, this Group is probably unique in the U.K.
I have now stepped aside to let Group Members run Events. I shall be here to bring it all together, to advise and to assist. Our combined efforts will provide an interesting, varied and enjoyable programme from Spring onwards. In the meantime, winter 'Experiences' include tobogganing at Kirkstone (when suitable) plus food/drink at Kirkstone Inn. Peter will continue his climbing instruction at Kendal Wall. Phone me anytime for latest information on these and other winter activities.
I invite all SLU3A members to contact me with Event(s) you may wish to organise for this Group or ask me to suggest Activities - I have dozens of ideas. Also, join us for coffee and chat in Kendal 11am 22 Jan. (phone me to book). We'll discuss plans for future memorable experiences and for our new Adventure Group!
In April, we rode Clydesdale and Shire heavy horses in Furness whilst non-riding supporters
enjoyed a tour in spectacular countryside plus afternoon tea. Later, we appreciated an evening meal at quaint, unique 'Blacksmiths Arms', Broughton Mills.
Our Ribchester Badger watch was postponed (uncooperative badgers); ditto a visit to Windermere Jetty Museum of Boats - not yet opened. We were, however, enthralled by 'The Sixteen' Choir at Carlisle Cathedral and enjoyed an exceptional pre-concert Italian meal.
In July, we thoroughly enjoyed a private breakfast at Blackwell Arts & Craft House (Bowness) with charming film producer Nick Barton of 'Swallows & Amazons' and 'Calendar Girls' fame. We then toured Blackwell, including their Swallows & Amazons Exhibition, followed by lunch at 'The Hare & Hounds', Bowland Bridge.
Thanks to Maureen for organising Charity Dragon Boat paddling on Windermere. See next Newsletter for report on Whitewater Rafting (Llangollen).
I need offers of assistance, please. I regret this popular Group will close in December if none are forthcoming. Can you run - or help run - an event of your choosing? The Group has grown too large for me to run single-handed.
