A little Adventure: a lot of Fun.
We arrange a wide variety of Special out of the ordinary Events for the slightly more adventurous. Dates, times and locations vary - contact the coordinator for more information or to book a place.
21 March. I very much regret that, due to Coronavirus, our current Programme is postponed. I stress the word 'postponed'; all will take place - but later.
Our primary aim over the coming months must be to remain safe. However, following Dale Carnegie's dictum, 'If the world offers you a lemon, make lemonade', this is an opportunity for us to enjoy a happy and productive period. So I say to all Group Members - indeed to all SLU3A Members - let's jolly well do just that!!
'Memorable Experiences' will continue to operate throughout this coming period. We are resilient and adaptable so will offer activities (online or otherwise) suited to the circumstances with safety foremost. I therefore ask you to put your thinking caps on and let me know which activities you'd like to see on a new Spring Programme which will be announced early next month. All ideas must be within Government Guidelines and suited to those who are self-isolating.
To start the ball rolling, here's an idea. We can meet in the Lake District for an open-air 'Lemonade' picnic. We'll provide our own food and drink, travel separately and keep appropriate distance at all times. The picnic will be open to all Members who can guarantee that they have strictly observed isolation for a minimum of fourteen days immediately prior to the gathering.
And another couple of ideas. If you wish to contact specific Group Members during your isolation I'll be happy to forward messages or to put you in touch with whichever Members(s) you have in mind. Also, if you have an S.O.S.(short of food or whatever) email me and I'll try to arrange for a local Member to assist.
Please inundate me s.a.p. with ideas for our new - and very different - Programme. All suggestions will be gratefully received and considered.
Do keep safe - and happy!
News - March 2020
I hear excellent reports of Margaret Gunning's HORSE RIDING INSTRUCTION Sunday afternoon sessions (£28) for Beginners and Near-beginners - next one 5 April. Margaret has very sensibly kept numbers down to a maximum of six riders per outing to enable all Members to receive individual attention. It's a wonderful opportunity to learn to ride safely and everybody seems keen whilst clearly having fun. We'll have a couple more lessons then enjoy a hack in the countryside around Old Hutton.
FIREWALKING on Thursday 12 March (only £15) is a very different kettle of fish! Very, VERY few of our 1600 Members will dare to try it! My forecast is that, at most, only one Member (plus me) will dare do it. Should I have drawn a picture of chickens next to this item or are you the person to prove me wrong...Oh, surely you are...!
CURLING at the fabulous new Barton Grange Curling Centre has proved to be one of the most popular Events which we've held in nine years of Memorable Experience's existence. Irene Hall will lead our 7th visit on Monday 23 March. £22-50 for approx 2 hours.
A SPRING BALLOON FLIGHT OVER LAKELAND. We have the right price, now we need the right weather. We're doing this as a contribution from 'Memorable Experiences' to 'U3A Day'. All SLU3A Members are invited to join us and celebrate.
WALL CLIMBING INSTRUCTION at Kendal Wall. Steve, Peter and June continue to donate their time FREE to instruct Members.
CARRIAGE DRIVING INSTRUCTION re-commences with the famous Cartmel Black Horses and the equally famous Tracey Alexander to instruct. £85 for half a day with tea and bites thrown in! As with Curling, Wall Climbing and Horse Riding, I hear constant glowing reports.
TOBOGGANING. So far a wash-out this winter; the toboggans would float! But come the snow...
We work hard to bring you an exceptional Programme. Do see our full Programme on this website at 'Groups' and scroll down to 'Memorable Experiences'. Above all, if you like what we do please support us by joining whichever Event you fancy having a go at! And if you offer to organise an Event we'll be very, VERY pleased; we'll even give you lots of ideas for suitable Activities.

These two photos were taken in Leighton Hall where 'Memorable Experiences' held our last Event of the year on 11 December. 36 Members attended a Private Candlelit Tour followed by our singing Carols accompanied by John Campbell on the Steinway Grand. Members of our 'Singing for Fun' Group joined us to guarantee that we kept more or less to the tune!
'Memorable Experiences' will be concentrating on three Activities in January:
Indoor Horse Riding Instruction (for Beginners and Intermediates) at Holmescales Riding Centre, Old Hutton, Sunday afternoon 19 January. £28.
Indoor Wall Climbing Instruction at The Kendal Wall. These popular lessons are regular Events for 'Mem Experiences' Members throughout the year especially during Winter. Instruction is Free.
Outdoor Tobogganing is already underway for the 57 Members signed up to sledge this Winter when, and if, conditions are suitable.
Members interested in the above should email me. email@example.com
I've been contacted by The Third Age Trust who tell me that 'Memorable Experiences' Group is unique in that there is no other U3A Group in U.K., offering Activities of a similar nature. They've asked me to blog re our history, Events, etc., and I'll commence the Blog this January.
