What we do

CORONAVIRUS THREAT - SEE REPORTS BELOW

There are four separate Amblers groups, walking in different locations, but with similar approaches. All four meet twice each month.

Amblers 1 & Amblers 2 walks proceed at a fairly gentle pace, are about 5 miles long without much climbing (maybe 500 feet or so, depending on the leaders). Along the way we stop for a coffee break and a picnic lunch. Dogs on leads are allowed on walks in group 1, but not in group 2.

Amblers 3 has the possibility of a pub or cafe lunch at the end of the walk instead of a break for lunch (particularly in the Winter months). A visit to a garden or historical site might be included during or following a walk.

Amblers 4 aims to finish before lunch.

Members may only join one of the four Amblers Groups. (to allow for our large number of enthusiastic amblers) However, a member can belong to one Amblers group AND one Amblers Plus group.

AMBLERS 4 WALKS UPDATE

As you already know, we are hoping to resume Amblers 4 walks on 16 July with a walk from Wray Castle.
We are required to complete a U3a *Outdoor Activity Checklist* regarding Covid precautions for this activity and attach a copy for your information and action. Please note that Section 2 requires you all to review your own *Personal Checklist Outcome.*
The form indicates that each participant should sign their own personal checklist however, in the circumstances, we feel that each member printing off, signing and handing in their checklist before going on a walk is timeconsuming and possibly hazardous if the walk leader has to collect and handle everyones forms before every walk.
We are therefore taking the view that by attending a walk, each participant has read and accepted the risk assessment and satisfied themselves as to the Personal Checklist Outcome.
In these difficult and uncertain times, the first walk is very much an experiment and a little more regimented than of old. Please bear with us, our wish is to keep everyone safe and within Government Guidelines whilst enjoying a walk in each others company.
As time goes on, Government and U3a guidance might change and we will amend our walks accordingly.
As this is the first walk, it would help us if we could have an indication of the numbers hoping to walk, so that we can make arrangements to cater for that number. We appreciate that weather and personal circumstances can change and that you might not later be able to attend but if you could send a brief email of your intention to walk to me at gafishwick@hotmail.co.uk it would be very much appreciated.
Anne has arranged a zoom meeting for 10am on July 2nd, where we can discuss these arrangements, otherwise we hope to see you at the next walk.
Best wishes
Garnet and Alison

AMBLERS 4 WALKS RE-COMMENCE

Hope you have all kept safe and well.

Now that the Government has eased restrictions on meeting with friends, we are proposing to re-commence our walks on Thursday, 16 July with a walk from Wray Castle. (Details below)

Currently groups of six people can meet up outside so we are proposing to split up at the meeting point and walk in groups of six subject to social distancing of at least one metre.  Each group (each with its own leader) will set off 50 yards behind the previous group.

This walk is very much experimental and may need some tweaking afterwards.

There is a Zoom meeting scheduled for 2 July when finer details could be discussed.

Personally, We still intend to get out and walk as a means of exercise within Government guidelines and would encourage others to do so if they are able.

Thank you to all who have led walks this year despite the weather and hope to see you all once the current crisis is over.

Take care.

Alison, Garnet and Anne.
