What we do

CORONAVIRUS THREAT - SEE REPORTS BELOW

There are four separate Amblers groups, walking in different locations, but with similar approaches. All four meet twice each month.

Amblers 1 & Amblers 2 walks proceed at a fairly gentle pace, are about 5 miles long without much climbing (maybe 500 feet or so, depending on the leaders). Along the way we stop for a coffee break and a picnic lunch. Dogs on leads are allowed on walks in group 1, but not in group 2.

Amblers 3 has the possibility of a pub or cafe lunch at the end of the walk instead of a break for lunch (particularly in the Winter months). A visit to a garden or historical site might be included during or following a walk.

Amblers 4 aims to finish before lunch.

Members may only join one of the four Amblers Groups. (to allow for our large number of enthusiastic amblers) However, a member can belong to one Amblers group AND one Amblers Plus group.

CORONAVIRUS THREAT

After careful consideration by Anne and ourselves, we have decided to suspend all future Amblers 4 walks due to the Corona virus.

This has not been an easy decision, particularly in view of last weeks lovely walk around Colton led by Kath Rawlinson, where with some difficulty, we all kept our distance from each other. However it is clear that day by day the situation is getting worse and that it is now in everyones best interest to suspend organised walks for the foreseeable future.

Personally, We still intend to get out and walk as a means of exercise within Government guidelines and would encourage others to do so if they are able.

Thank you to all who have led walks this year despite the weather and hope to see you all once the current crisis is over.

Take care.

Alison, Garnet and Anne.

Twice monthly - 1st and 3rd Thursdays

We start walking at 10.00, keeping a steady pace for around 5 miles, aiming to be back at the start point by 1.00 before lunch time, so there will usually be only 1 planned stop for coffee. We will happily tackle stiles, stream crossings, occasional very easy scrambles and a bit of height gain, up to about 500feet. We arrange a ‘car sharing’ point for more distant walks.
