What we do

CORONAVIRUS THREAT - SEE REPORTS BELOW

There are four separate Amblers groups, walking in different locations, but with similar approaches. All four meet twice each month.

Amblers 1 & Amblers 2 walks proceed at a fairly gentle pace, are about 5 miles long without much climbing (maybe 500 feet or so, depending on the leaders). Along the way we stop for a coffee break and a picnic lunch. Dogs on leads are allowed on walks in group 1, but not in group 2.

Amblers 3 has the possibility of a pub or cafe lunch at the end of the walk instead of a break for lunch (particularly in the Winter months). A visit to a garden or historical site might be included during or following a walk.

Amblers 4 aims to finish before lunch.

Members may only join one of the four Amblers Groups. (to allow for our large number of enthusiastic amblers) However, a member can belong to one Amblers group AND one Amblers Plus group.

17 DECEMBER WALK

Well here we are , most of us in tier 2 and allowed to walk again in groups of 6. I am sad tht those of you who live in Lancashire will not be able to join us this time.

Suan has kindly organised a walk, mostly on roads to avoid the mud. It is slightly more 'up' than our usual, with a climb at the end to the Hoad; but those who want to avoid the climb can easily return to cars early.

This time you will need to BOOK A PLACE on the walk by emailing me in advance at anneurquhart2@gmail.com.  Please do not turn up unbooked to save me embarrassment at having to turn you away.

We will walk in groups of 6 socially distanced, being considerate to other path users, not mixing with the other groups of 6 , and hand sanitising as appropriate. Please remain near your cars at the start , ready to walk at 10.00 (toilet is a short walk distant).

This year we are not able  to share festive treats with other walkers, so please do not try.

On the more cheerful side, vaccines are coming, and it has not rained all day every day this week!

Hope to see some of you in 2 weeks

Anne Urquhart

Date: Thursday 17th Dec 2020

Leader: Suan Marston (AU tel. 07748388014)

Car sharing: Only within your bubble !

Meeting Place/start: Booth’s car park in Ulverston

Start Time: 10am

Description: Very simple walk, most of us have done it before, we will follow the canal to the sea, and then return inland to climb the Hoad. This is quite a pull up, but there is a good path and take our time. I will need puffing stops.

Distance: Stiles: Not many stiles. About 5 miles

Height gain About 200 metres

Comments: Toilets are open in Booths. Please park in the corner near the canal.

We will walk in groups of 6 with no mixing between groups, and prebooking is required.

Please stay near your vehicles at the start and end of walk and respect social distancing and hand sanitising advice! Sorry, please do not attempt to share edible Christmas treats this year.
