Meeting DayThird Thursday

What we do

Co-ordinators: Jenny Kelly and Martin Evans

This group's walks are more challenging than the Ramblers Group and take place once a month on the third Thursday. We do go out all the year round and in all weathers. Members must be equipped for adverse conditions: weather and underfoot conditions are often very different at higher levels. Walks are generally on the fells using paths and tracks, doubtless rough in places. Where possible we plan to include fell summits on our days out, some reasonable scrambling may be involved, for example Striding Edge and Swirral Edge or the Bad Step on Crinkle Crags. Mileage and climbing are variable depending on the terrain and the weather but is generally 13 - 19km (8 - 12 miles) and 750 - 1000m (2500 - 3500 ft) of climbing. We aim to be out for 6-7 hours, moderate walking. The route is tailored on the day to the weather and ground conditions, and indeed the wishes of the group.

All walks must be pre-booked and, for safety reasons, numbers are restricted to 15.

Sorry the Group is full at the moment but we do maintain a short waiting list..

Co-ordinators: Paula and Martin Hudson

Monthly: 1st Thursday

This new Group is offering walks of about 9 – 12 miles and up to 3000’ in the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. It is aimed at those walkers who prefer a faster pace with fewer stops than the other Groups. Members must also be confident on rock and scree and be willing to plan and lead walks. We intend to keep this a small Group and it is already full. At the present time we are not maintaining a waiting list.

Our inaugural walk of the Chapel le dale skyline in October was led by Ken and Jill Humphris.
